“Once in a While” evolved from an idea relating to darning and repair.
Comprised of small constructed pieces, grouped together they form a larger (ongoing) wall piece exploring tensions and textures enclosed within a defined space.
These pieces are very process-led. Making each one is like drawing, or doodling, each piece giving an idea for another : a different ‘warp’ to work into, varying weave density, more neutral/contrasting colours, thicker/thinner yarns, different stitches, one thing leads to another ….
So far I have made around 40 pieces - including trying out a larger version.
I'll officially “end” this series at 52, but I intend to carry on making more pieces, every once in a while ….
